Newark and the surrounding Nottinghamshire area offers plenty of things to do come rain or shine. Longer drives
If you want to take a longer excursion from your Newark base, the town is very well connected by road to other cities. You can be in wonderful York in around an hour and 35 minutes, while the A17 will take you all the way to King's Lynn in Norfolk in around the same time. Huddersfield is approximately an hour and 40 minutes away.

Sightseeing
Newark offers a number of landmarks including the Church of St Mary Magdalene, which has the tallest spire in the county. There's Newark Castle too, which was built in 1123 and is now ruined. Its claim to fame is that King John is believed to have died there in 1216.
