Nearby Wigan

Around half an hour away from the centre of Wigan via the M6 is Warrington, which is a great place to go for a day out. You can take your family to Gulliver's World for rides, shows and lots of opportunities for fun. Alternatively, go to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, which dates back to 1857 and has over 200,000 artefacts all displayed in beautiful and original Victorian glass.

Longer drives

While Manchester may be close to Wigan, the town is also within an hour of the fantastic city of Leeds. Take the M62 and you can enjoy all that Leeds has to offer, including a mix of historical attractions and modern conveniences. Shop in the largest covered market in Europe, enjoy a meal by one of the canals and hunt down some of the ancient and hidden pubs.

Sightseeing

You can't really visit Wigan without stopping to take a photo or two at the Face of Wigan. The imposing sculpture is incredibly iconic and fairly central, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding it.

Another great place to visit is the Church of All Saints, which is incredibly beautiful and atmospheric. Close to Wigan Pier, it's the perfect place to stop off after you've enjoyed the area's attractions.
