Where to go

Washington offers a huge array of parks and monuments, such as the huge needle of the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Holocaust Memorial and the National World War 2 memorial. These are all located in or near the heart of the city and guided tours can be undertaken.

Short drives beyond the District of Columbia boundaries provide more memorials, such as the US Marine Corps war memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National cemetery, just across the Potomac River. The FedEx Field in landover, Maryland is half an hour away and hosts Washington Redskins home games.

Longer drives

From Washington DC it takes just an hour to drive to Baltimore, while other cities take somewhat longer to each. It is two and a half hours to Philadelphia, just over three hours to New Jersey and nearly four hours to reach New York.

Eating and drinking

Things to do

Apart from all the governmental and historical aspects, the city offers some fun places to go. Animal lovers can enjoy the Smithsonian Zoological Park.

Sightseeing

Just to walk or drive around Washington is to see some of the world's most famous buildings, including the White House, the Capitol Building and the Supreme Court. The Pentagon is also visible across the Potomac in Arlington. Many of these sights are illuminated at night.
