It's a mix that, for many people, has created the perfect holiday destination for decades.

Whether you want to head to the world of Mickey Mouse at DisneyWorld, visit the famous Sea World exhibits or go to the Everglades in the south of the state to see the alligators, Florida will have something for you, and car hire with Holiday Autos opens the door with a flexibility and freedom that allows you to create your dream holiday.

What you need to know

Car rental in Florida is such a popular way to see the state that no matter where you are flying into, there will be a plethora of car hire companies, mostly always at your arrival airport in any city, ready to allow you to pick up your vehicle and be on the road in a matter of minutes.

At Holiday Autos, our easy to use booking tool allows you to compare prices from 1,500 suppliers before you go, both major international firms and local independent companies, so you know we will find the right deal for you.

We also offer free cancellation and amends, and we will never charge you transaction fees.

Where to pick up your car

There are car hire companies located in most of the towns and cities located all the way from Pensacola to Miami, but the best and most convenient place to pick up your car is from one of the airports, most of which will allow you to pick up on site.

There are many airports in the state serving all of the major cities. Some of the most popular in the whole of Florida will include Orlando International Airport (MCO), Sanford International Airport (SFB) and Miami International Airport (MIA).

Each of these airports, as well as the smaller ones elsewhere in the state, have a number of car hire companies available at the airport itself. And even for those that don't, shuttle bus services make picking up your hire car in Florida an absolute breeze.

Driving in Florida

When driving in Florida, it's important to remember that it's very different to driving in the UK, and can take some time to get used to. For example, you will be driving on the right hand side of the road, and the left hand side of the car, and chances are your vehicle will be automatic. Take your time to get used to these changes, and try not to rush it, or else you risk putting yourself in danger.

In Florida, like in most states, the age for driving a car hire will be set at a minimum of 25 years old. Other things to remember is that you will be required to have your car hire documents, insurance information and UK driving licence on you at all times. And don't forget, American drink driving rules are very strict, so don't get caught with even one beer on your breath. It's always better to be safe, and if you plan to drive, it's advisable to have nothing to drink.

Longer drives

If you are looking to explore Florida by car and want to see the variety that the state offers, then it can be a good idea to head to somewhere a little off the beaten track. For example, why not head off to Key Largo, the smallest of the Florida Keys. This is away from the tourist traps that are found around Florida somewhat, but it still allows you to indulge in the perfect family day out, and kids can get into the water with dolphins, swimming with these magical creatures and giving them an experience they will never forget. And being about three hours from Miami, it makes for a great road trip.

And for anyone looking for a great drive on Florida, why not look towards somewhere like Highway A1A? Florida's longest road, this highway runs parallel to the Atlantic coast and runs all the way down the eastern side of the state from north to south. The 72 miles from Ponte Vedra Beach down to area down to Flagler Beach is perhaps the most scenic part of the journey, but the whole of Highway A1A makes for the perfect setting for a road trip.
