Car hire at Jersey Airport

Car hire at Jersey Airport

Jersey Airport (JER) is a gateway to one of the Channel Islands and located just under 8km from the capital Saint Helier. You should be able to drive between the two locations in less than 15 minutes via the A2 when traffic conditions are favourable. As the largest island in the archipelago, there’s plenty to explore.

What I need to know

With only a few Jersey Airport car rental options available, it’s worth booking early to secure the right car at the right price. Use the Holiday Autos site to compare car hire deals and feel safe in the knowledge that you will be covered by free cancellation should your arrangements change, and no credit card fees.

Where to pick up my car

There are two areas where you will find the car hire desks at Jersey Airport. One is situated within the baggage reclaim area and the other is in the main arrivals hall. Staff at either of these locations will be able to help you with your booking and lead you to your hire car.

Car Hire Reviews Jersey Airport

  • “The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”

Where to go

At just 119.5km², Jersey is easily explored with a hire car and you’ll soon find you can make the most of what it has to offer. Whether you’re interested in experiencing the culture in Saint Helier and its fascinating history, exploring the beautiful countryside or taking in the golden sand of its beaches, you’ll find something to get you excited.

Nearby Jersey Airport

If you’re a keen golfer, then you’ll be pleased to hear there’s a historic golf course in close proximity to the airport. You could be on the green within minutes of picking up your hire car and driving for less than half an hour. In the opposite direction is Les Mielles Nature Reserve, where you can take a pleasant circular walk to see many species of wildlife.

Longer drives

Nowhere takes too long to drive to on Jersey due to its diminutive size, which means you can easily get to Bouley Bay or Plemont and back in a day. For a change of scenery, catch the car ferry from Saint Helier across to Guernsey. The journey takes around half an hour and you’ll have your hire car at your disposal to explore the other island.

Eating and drinking

As you would expect of an island between England and France, seafood is common on Jersey, with lobster, crab, oysters and mussels being particular specialities. Other dishes you may wish to try while on holiday include nettle soup, slow-cooked pork and bean stew. It is often worth dining in a family-run pub, as opposed to the most expensive restaurants to get a great plate of food.

Things to do

Jersey has some wonderfully unique things to do, from seeing a sea of purple flowers at the Jersey Lavender Farm to go-karting at the aMaizin! Adventure Park. Peruse produce at the indoor market in Saint Helier and buy handmade local textiles at one of the independent shops in the town.

Sightseeing

The monuments and museums dedicated to the World War II occupation are some of the most interesting sightseeing spots on Jersey. Be sure to include Elizabeth Castle, overlooking St Aubin’s Bay, and the Occupation Tapestry on your itinerary if you’re keen to learn more about this element of the island’s history.
