Where to go

Kettering has plenty of great attractions to keep families and visitors entertained, such as Wicksteed Park and Bugtopia, but if you want to make good use of your hire car, you should consider driving out to Castle Ashby Gardens and the unique Catanger Llamas farm in Towcester, where you can spend some time feeding and walking amongst some friendly llamas.

Driving less than ten miles north brings you to Corby, home to Rockingham Motor Speedway and Kirby Hall - a majestic English Heritage-owned building that has been partially restored to rekindle memories of old times for people of a certain age.

Meanwhile, Northampton is to the south, which promises a memorable time with Sywell Country Park, Pitsford Water Park and Althorp House.

Longer drives

If you fancy a taste of the big city, Birmingham is only 55 miles west of Kettering and reachable in just over an hour. The West Midlands city is home to the choctastic Cadbury World, Thinktank - Birmingham’s very hands-on science museum, the National Sea Life Centre and the retail mecca that is the Bull Ring.

Eating and drinking

Nearby Northampton hosts an annual food festival, usually around the second weekend of November, but if you aren’t in the area then, Kettering still has a great selection of restaurants and bars to keep your palate interested and your belly content.

Days out at Wicksteed Park or Bugtopia will be surefire hits for families and fun-seekers alike. For more sedate ventures, there’s plenty of peace and space at Boughton House and Twywell Hills, while Northampton has similarly calm green spaces in the shape of Coton Manor Garden and Abington Park.

Sightseeing

You’d have to drive two and a half hour’s south to London for anything as iconic as Big Ben or the London Eye. However, setting out your sights closer to Kettering, the wider county of Northamptonshire has some lovely landmarks such as Northampton and Lamport Railway, Sywell Country Park and Abington Park, which houses the museum of the Northamptonshire Regiment.
