Where to go

Being based in Keighley means you’re able to easily explore the delights of West Yorkshire. The charming town of Harrogate - regularly named as Britain’s best place to live - is reachable within a 50-minute drive, while there’s something for everyone in the city of Leeds. For a bracing taste of the famous West Yorkshire countryside, we’d recommend you head north to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Nearby Keighley

If the inner-city surroundings of Leeds and Bradford aren’t appealing, then there are many gorgeous little towns and villages in the vicinity of Keighley, most notably the quaint Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Skipton. The town of Halifax is also a great place to gain some accurate insight into what West Yorkshire is all about.

Longer drives

If your stint in Yorkshire Dales has you hungry for more open-air action, then the North York Moors National Park is reachable in less than two hours. Alternatively, driving north-west will bring you to the lush Lake District, which contains the wonderful Windermere and Keswick. Heading west for 60 miles takes you to the one-of-a-kind coastal town of Blackpool with its theme park rides and seaside fun. If Blackpool feels too brash, then Lytham St Annes is just a couple of miles south and offers a more sedate take on a similar theme.

Eating and drinking

Arguably Yorkshire’s biggest contribution to food is the Yorkshire Pudding, which has perfected many a Sunday roast over the years. The region is also credited for originating the Yorkshire curd tart, parkin - a sweet ginger cake - gingerbread, ginger beer, liquorice sweet (most notably the Pontefract cake) and Wensleydale cheese. There are also many breweries near to Keighley including those of Tetley’s, John Smith’s, Black Sheep and Theakston.

Things to do

The region is known for its grand railroads and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is testament to that. This five-mile stretch of preserved railway sees steam and diesel trains running from Keighley up the Worth Valley to Haworth and Oxenhope. It’s also a chance to see the Flying Scotsman - the world’s most famous steam locomotive- in action. Other great Keighley attractions include Bronte Parsonage Museum and Keighley Bus Museum.

Sightseeing

Keighley War Memorial stands in the centre of the town and is regularly used for wedding photoshoots, so there’s no reason why it won’t make a great setting for some of your holiday snaps. Other sights worth seeing in the surrounding area include Golden Acre Park and Bradford’s Cartwright Hall.
