You can shop at both independent boutiques and high street stores; walk around the stunning countryside; check out attractions for family fun; and dine at any number of fantastic eateries. Nearby Harrogate

Your hire car will allow you to really explore Harrogate's surrounding towns and cities. Notable highlights include the historic market town of Knaresborough ten minutes away, Ripon half an hour's drive away and wonderful York, which is accessible in just 45 minutes. Any one of these would make an ideal day trip.

Longer drives

If you want to head further afield, Harrogate is the ideally-located base from which to do so. You can be at the seaside in Scarborough in an hour and 40 minutes, while pretty Whitby is around the same drive time away. Alternatively, you can even get to Leeds, Manchester and Durham within a couple of hours in the car.

Betty's is an attraction in itself, while Nidderdale is enjoyable for its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You should also shop for souvenirs on James Street or the Montpellier Quarter.

Sightseeing

For photo opportunities, check out 15th century Ripley Castle, which is open for tours inside and out. Hackfall Woods has its picturesque lakes and waterfalls, while the Scar House Reservoir is striking for its 55-metre height and the ruins of the temporary village that once housed the workers who built it.
