The nearest airport to Grimsby is Humberside Airport (HUY), but you can also drive in to the town from any number of other locations in the UK. Use the A46 if you're approaching from Lincoln or Newark, while the A180 links it up with Hull and the Midlands. Grimsby car hire will give you plenty of freedom to explore all this interesting location has to offer, while also providing you with access to attractions in neighbouring towns and cities. There are coastal walks to enjoy and nearby areas of outstanding natural beauty, but also plenty of bustling cities too.

Nearby Grimsby

You'll be spoilt for choice as to where to stop off if you're hitting the roads around Grimsby. Cleethorpes is seven minutes' drive away, while you can be in Hull in 45 minutes. There's culture aplenty in Lincoln in just under an hour, or you could be enjoying summer donkey rides in Mablethorpe in around the same driving time.

Longer drives

If you want to head further afield during your time here, don't miss beautiful York at one hour 30 minutes driving time away. You can also check out Sheffield and Leeds, both around 1 hour 20 minutes' drive, or Skegness in around an hour and 15 minutes.

Eating and drinking

You absolutely must try the famous fish and chips on offer in Grimsby, preferably out of a tray on the seafront. The traditional smoked haddock is also delicious and a local delicacy. For beer, there's a brewery in Grimsby offering lots of different beverages. If you want a night out, head to the Riverhead complex or Cleethorpes riverfront for bars and clubs.

Things to do

It's surprising how much there is to do in Grimsby. Check out the National Fishing Heritage Centre and go on board a real old fishing boat if you want fun for all the family. Alternatively, ice skate at the Ice Arena, watch Grimsby Town play football or shop till you drop at the Freshney Place Shopping Centre.

Sightseeing

Grimsby has several landmarks for tourists, including the Dock Tower made famous in the Young's fish adverts and the Town Hall, which also houses a fascinating museum. Don't miss Grimsby Minster for a photo opportunity either, as its Gothic structure is sure to impress.
