The Macclesfield Canal is well worth exploring, with its winding towpaths and fine views of the Peak District. The National Park itself lies just east of the town, with nearby features including the summit of Shining Tor. Sports fans can enjoy football at Macclesfield Town's Moss Rose ground.

Manchester is half an hour away to the north and Liverpool is less than an hour and a half away. Those seeking some of the most spectacular countryside in Britain can reach Snowdonia in north Wales or the Lake District in around two hours.

Macclesfield offers plenty of traditional English food and plenty of takeaways, with Chinese, Italian and Indian cuisine easily available. As well as enjoying the canal, those who fancy a walk or a bike ride can enjoy Middlewood Way, a former railway line running over ten miles northwards from Macclesfield to Marple. Walkers can also enjoy Peak District hills like Shining Tor and walks around Lyme Park.

The Silk Museum is well worth visiting for an insight into the town's industrial past. Tegg's Nose Country Park on the edge of town offers a panoramic view across both Macclesfield itself and also across towards the giant radio telescope at Jodrell Bank, the Clwydian Hills and the mountains of Snowdonia.
