The Eagle

One of the most famous pubs in the UK, The Eagle was allegedly where on February 28th 1953, Francis Crick and James Watson put together a proposed structure for DNA, which they claimed was akin to discovering “the secret of life”.

That even placed this city centre pub, which was once a popular haunt with many of those working in the university's Cavendish Laboratory, into the folklore of not just Cambridge University but the global scientific community. A plaque commemorating the event still hangs next to the entrance of the pub, which stands opposite St Bene't's Church, the oldest standing building in Cambridge.

Fitzwilliam Museum

This spectacular building adorns Trumpington Street and boasts over a million artworks in its collection, covering various genres and periods throughout history, including some remarkable examples of artefacts from the ancient world. The best part is that admission is free.
