Seville Airport (SVQ), also known as San Pablo, is an international hub in the south of Spain around 30 minutes' drive from the capital Seville down the A4/E05 highway. It is the main airport serving western Andalusia and is consequently well-connected to Spain's other cities too, including the ring road to Madrid.

Where to go

Seville and the entire surrounding region offers a myriad of attractions, so you'll be spoilt for choice once you get behind the wheel. You can explore the beautiful countryside of Andalusia or wander the beautiful historical streets of the many ancient cities, including Seville, making it ideal for culture vultures as well as those who want a modern break.

Nearby Seville airport

To make the most of your Seville airport car rental, take the time to visit nearby Jerez, which is less than an hour's drive away and is renowned for its fine brandy, flamenco dancing and horses. Checking out the many towns and cities along the shores of the River Guadalquivir is also highly recommended, as you'll see examples of Moorish, Jewish and Roman architecture. Don't miss Granada and beautiful Cordoba too.

Longer drives

If you want to venture further afield in your hire car, you could always head 110km north-east of Seville to Costa de la Luz, or be on the Costa del Sol for a spot of sunbathing in around three hours. Other options include Fuengirola, Torremolinos - and Faro, if you want to cross the border into Portugal.

Eating and drinking

Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in plenty of tapas in Seville, as it's the region's speciality and there are some great restaurants offering delicious dishes around the foot of the cathedral. Meanwhile, there's excellent nightlife available, since Sevilla has more bars per person than anywhere else in Europe.

Things to do

Seville offers some great days out, so try the Archaeology Museum for the best collection of Roman-era artefacts in Spain and the Science Museum (La Casa de la Ciencia) for its dazzling planetarium. For youngsters, there's the aquarium with more than 400 marine species and the story of the discovery of the Spice Islands to boot.

Sightseeing

The Alcazar of Seville - a royal palace and Unesco World Heritage Site - and Seville Cathedral are the city's two most impressive buildings, with the latter also the burial place of Christopher Columbus. However, don't miss the Parque de Maria Luisa for its beautiful orange groves and the Barrio Santa Cruz Jewish quarter either, as both are truly charming tourist destinations.
