Where to pick up my car

You can get Costa del Sol car rental vehicles from Malaga International Airport (AGP), with all the agencies located at Terminal 2. The A7 will then take you to the area's many resorts. Where to go

Being able to drive on the Costa del Sol will give you the freedom to explore everything the region has to offer and really get the most out of this long stretch of coastline. You'll be able to see everything from buzzing beach resorts to quaint fishing villages - and all sorts of sights in between.

Nearby Costa del Sol

If you use Malaga as your base, there is lots to see and do within easy reach. Estepona is famed for its golf courses, wellness tourism and luxury shopping, while Torremolinos has golden beaches, unrivalled entertainment options and some great boutiques.

Longer drives

If you want to enjoy longer excursions, don't miss Seville. Just under three hours away, it is a spectacular city and has lots of monuments to walk around. Granada is two-and-a-half hours away and boasts a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Alhambra. You can even hop over to Gibraltar in under two hours for the Rock and the monkeys.

Eating and drinking

There is some wonderful food to enjoy in Andalusia if you venture away from the touristy cafes. Sample fresh tuna washed down with local beer San Miguel, or dip into tapas. Popular dishes include gazpacho, tortilla, migas de Harina, jamones de Jabugo and fresh olives.

Things to do

Once you've had your fill of sunbathing, there's plenty to do with your time on the Costa del Sol. Splash around with the kids at the aqua parks in Mijas and Torremolinos, or enjoy rides at the Tivoli World theme park. You can also play a round of golf at the many different courses.

Sightseeing

You'll find lots of photo opportunities here, with a particular highlight being the Cueva de Nerja in Nerja. It's a stunning grotto with cave paintings and the world's longest stalactite. You can also enjoy lovely views of the sea and mountains from Gibralfaro Fort. Check out too the Museo Picasso, as the artist was born nearby and it houses 200 of his pieces.
