To get here, simply take your hire car east along the coast on the E90. The journey takes around an hour.

To get to this iconic sight, head south on E90, then the SS121, before heading south-west on the SS128 and you're there. Again, this drive will take around an hour.

Longer drives

Head over to Monreale, where you can enjoy a cathedral that reflects Norman, Arab and Byzantine art into one impressive show of diversity.

Take your car 20 minutes south-west along Corso Calatafimi, which becomes the SS186 as you head out of town.

One of the longer drives from the city is probably the one that is most worth it. Head south on the S624, then the SP79 for around an hour and 50 minutes, and you will come to Sciacca, which contains therapeutic waters that have been heralded by people since Ancient times.

The thermal springs at this picturesque seaside town are perfect for healing and aches or pains.
