Car Hire at Florence Airport

Florence Airport (FLR) is the international airport of Florence, the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany. It is also the second-busiest Tuscan airport, in terms of passengers after Pisa International Airport. The terminal itself sits just off the A11 Autostrada Firenze-Mare.

Car Hire Reviews Florence Airport

  • “The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”

Where to go

The city of Florence is just 11 km away and you can drive into the centre in well under half an hour. Here, you’ll find the magnificent Piazzale Michelangelo square, which promises jawdropping panoramic views of Florence at sunset. You could also check out Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and the breathtaking Uffizi Gallery.

Nearby Florence Airport

Driving for about an hour west towards the coast brings you to Pisa with its famous leaning tower. Meanwhile, an hour to the north of Florence Airport is the down-to-earth and distinctly medieval Bologna with its buzzing Mercato di Mezzo, as well as stunning museums, architecture, piazzas and churches.

Longer drives

After getting to Bologna, you take the E35 into Milan. It’s a three-and-a-half hour drive in total but a chance to visit one of the world’s fashion capitals should be seized.

Alternatively, you could head south out of Florence Airport and end up in Rome - Italy’s capital.

Eating and drinking

Italy is famed for its pizza and pasta and for good reason. Nobody does pizza like the Italians and you’d be hard-pressed to experience better pasta anywhere else. In the same breath, Italian wine is phenomenal but one of the lesser known Italian delicacies worth trying is grappa, which is made from grapes during the second press after they’ve been juiced for wine.

Things to do

Booking one of the many wine tours is definitely recommended. You’ll get a first-hand education on how the Italians produce their world famous wine and what really goes into it. There are usually plenty of tastings along the way too.

Similarly, cooking classes will show you how to put together pizza and pasta just like the Italians do.

Sightseeing

You don’t need us to tell you how well-known the Leaning Tower of Pisa is, and considering you’ll be so close, it’s definitely worth dropping by.

Within Florence itself, you could visit Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, Accademia Gallery and the romantic Basilica San Miniato al Monte.
