Where to go

Athens Airport is located in Attica, a place teeming with historic and internationally famous landmarks such as the Acropolis, as well as stunning scenery along the Aegean coastline.

Nearby Athens Airport

The Acropolis stands on a rocky outcrop above Athens and contains the remains of ancient structures including the Parthenon temple. It's just a 45-minute drive from the airport and is conveniently close to places such as Adriano Street, where you can grab a snack or a meal. Alternatively, why not head east and drive along the coastal views in towns such as Artemida? You'll see why this part of the world is a true jewel of Europe

Longer drives

Cape Sounion is home to the ruins of an ancient Greek temple to god of the sea Poseidon. The structure stands on the headland overlooking the sea, so stunning views and sunsets can be enjoyed here. Drivers can get there by heading down the Attiki Odos toll road.

Eating and drinking

Greece boasts all sorts of traditional dishes that are well worth sampling, from baklava pastries and tyropitakia cheese pies to souvlaki and dips such as tzatziki. But all tastes are catered for in this part of the country, with its impressive array of bars and restaurants.

Things to do

While you are busy exploring the ancient monuments and ruins, why not learn more about them by visiting the Acropolis Museum? With stunning views of the Acropolis itself, you can get a fascinating insight into the early Greek civilisation and their artistic and scientific achievements.

Sightseeing

Filopappou Hill is entrenched in myth as the place where Theseus fought the Amazons, but it also boasts stunning views of Attica and the Saronic Gulf, and is a great place to take photographs of the Acropolis. We would also strongly recommend taking your hire car along some of the coastal roads, taking in the stunning cliffs and clear blue waters.
