Around 20 minutes from Brussels Airport is the iconic Atomium. The unusual science museum is house in a unique and rather strange building that is just as interesting as the exhibits it contains. Even if you go only to take photos outside, it is worth the trip.

Not much further away is Coudenberg, the former palace of Brussels. Here you can enjoy tours, learning about the history of the palace and get involved with hands-on activities.

Longer drives

A little over an hour away via the E40 is the city of Bruges, which is one of the most stunning places in Europe. With its beautiful network of canals and ornate Medieval buildings, simply walking around this city is a great day out. To really see as much of Bruges as you can, climb the 366 steps of the 13th-century Belfort to take in the fantastic view from the top.

Eating and drinking

You'll find cafes dotted throughout the city, which are great for coffee, light bites and people watching. These all have warm and welcoming atmospheres that you're sure to love.

You'll also find a great range of restaurants, most of which will serve the meals that Brussels is famous for, including moules frites and moules a la mariniere, which are usually dished up in hearty portions.

For a bit of history, you can't miss the Musee du Cinquantenaire, which is home to a range of exhibitions. Even the areas that house the exhibitions are beautiful and worth exploring. Alternatively, learn all about Brussels' lace-making past at the Musee du Costume et de la Dentelle.

There is no shortage of historical sites in Brussels, giving you many chances for a spot of sightseeing. One of the most imposing locations, as well as the most beautiful, is St-Gilles Town Hall. Inside and outside are simply stunning, giving you plenty of fantastic photo opportunities.
