Hiring a car in St Lucia
Located in the eastern Caribbean, with some of the best beaches and reef-diving sites in the world, St Lucia really is a little bit of heaven on earth. The island nation has two distinctive mountains, called the Pitons, situated on its west coast, and was created as an island because of its volcanic activity.
Exotic plants and flowers grow wild in the island's tropical rainforest, spilling out into the local villages and towns and adding colour to every street corner. With a year round average temperature of 27C, luxury resorts and quaint fishing villages, it’s easy to see why this volcanic island is popular among tourists.
Upon obtaining total independence from England back in 1979, St Lucia coined the national motto “The Land, The People, The Light”, and since then the island has only moved forwards. St Lucia’s freedom and laid back vibe will provide you with the opportunity to truly relax in a destination which will make you feel as though you’re in paradise.

Nearby St Lucia
One of the most admirable aspects of St Lucia is how naturally beautiful the island is, unspoiled by the modern world. Across from Rodney Bay, you'll find Pigeon Island National Park, which will provide you with the history of the island. Here, the outlooks were used to monitor French troops during their struggle for control of St Lucia. Today visitors can hike to the outlook point and explore the ruins of the many military buildings.
To take a look into local life on the island, a visit to the Castries market is recommended, which is located in the capital. Here you will be able to purchase local foods, handmade gifts and souvenirs. If you want to be right at the centre of the action, visit on a Saturday, the market's busiest day.
Driving in St Lucia
You can rest assured that driving in St Lucia is safe, with roads in good condition. Driving is also on the left-hand side, like in the UK, so you don’t need to worry about getting which lane you need to be in mixed up. There are two main roads that cover the island, with the west coast road the more adventurous and scenic route for tourists.
Aside from these two main highways, you will find a number of other roads which will take you to beaches, resorts and villages. It’s worth bearing in mind that when driving on these roads, it is likely that you will encounter steeper hills and bumpy roads, more so than you'll find on the main highways.
