Driving in St Lucia

You can rest assured that driving in St Lucia is safe, with roads in good condition. Driving is also on the left-hand side, like in the UK, so you don’t need to worry about getting which lane you need to be in mixed up. There are two main roads that cover the island, with the west coast road the more adventurous and scenic route for tourists.

Aside from these two main highways, you will find a number of other roads which will take you to beaches, resorts and villages. It’s worth bearing in mind that when driving on these roads, it is likely that you will encounter steeper hills and bumpy roads, more so than you'll find on the main highways.

The Diamond Falls

The Diamond Falls are a great destination for a day trip, offering the opportunity to take in the beauty of nature. The waterfalls are coloured by mineral deposits and located nearby the healing mineral hot spring baths, originally built for the troops of King Louis XVI of France. This location also features stunning natural gardens with colourful flowers and trees from around the world.

Anse Chastanet Marine National Park

Anse Chastanet coral reef harbours attract drivers from all over the globe. With a variety of tropical corals and colourful fish, including parrotfish, goatfish, wrasse and barracudas, the reef really is a treasure trove of beautiful sea life. Above the surface, tourists will find white sandy beaches which provide picturesque views of the Pitons.

The Pitons

A trip to St Lucia wouldn’t be complete without a road trip to The Pitons, the island’s twin towering peaks which soar out of the sea to great heights. The largest peak stands at 798 meters tall, with the smaller Piton falling slightly behind at 750 metres. The Pitons are acknowledged as difficult climbs, so driving the majority of the way is recommended. Alternatively, tourists can admire the scenic beauty of the peaks from different parts of the island.
