Car hire at Denver Airport

Denver Airport (DIA) is the gateway to Colorado, where you can explore the so-called Mile-High City of Denver itself, or enjoy the scenery offered by the nearby national parks and forests, as well as the stunning Rocky Mountains.

DIA is just half an hour away from downtown Denver in a hire car via Peña Boulevard.

What I need to know

DIA is one of the busiest airports in the whole of the USA and therefore offers plenty of choice when it comes to hiring a car. Our site makes it easy to compare the best car hire deals for you, and offers free cancellation, no card fees and around the clock support.

Where to pick up my car

DIA has more than ten major car rental companies serving visitors to Colorado travelers. Car rental agencies can be found on airport property and provide courtesy shuttle service to and from Jeppesen Terminal.

Car Hire Reviews Denver Airport

  • “The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”
    Diane T

Where to go

DIA is ideally located for drivers to explore famous corners of downtown Denver, such as Union Station and the LoDo Historic District.

The Colorado State Capitol is also well worth visiting, as you can stand exactly one mile above sea level (hence the city's nickname), before climbing a rotunda to see a panoramic view of the mountains - one of the most stunning spectacles in North America.

Nearby Denver Airport

Just west of Denver lies the White River National Forest, the most visited national forest in the USA that covers a staggering 2.3 million acres. Visitors can head to eight so-called Wilderness areas, 11 ski resorts and savour ten peaks that reach more than 14,000 feet in height.

Longer drives

The Rocky Mountain National Park can be reached in about an hour-and-a-half from DIA by hire car. Visitors can see sights including 60 mountains taller than 12,000 feet, 150 lakes and wildlife including moose, bighorn sheep and elk.

Eating and drinking

Denver is a bustling city with a huge variety of bars, pubs and restaurants on offer. Denver's 16th street mall might be a particularly good place to grab some food, as the mile-long pedestrian promenade is in the heart of downtown and offers some delightful outdoor cafes and nightspots.

Things to do

Denver Union Station is one of the most notable landmarks of the area, offering a combination of shops and award-winning restaurants, all in a distinctive and historic building.

Theme parks such as Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park and Water World should also offer plenty of thrills and excitement to visitors of all ages.

Sightseeing

The White River National Forest offers some stunning viewpoints, including the iconic Maroon Bells Scenic Area, near Aspen.

Scenic byways that can be accessed via hire car include the West Elk Scenic Byway, which is bookended by the twin summits of Mount Sopris in Carbondale and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
