St Helens is very close to Haydock Park Racecourse, which is just east of the town and hosts regular horse racing events. The World of Glass is an important tourist destination, reflecting the history of glassmaking in the town and providing present-day demonstrations of the craft.
Nearby St Helens
Liverpool is very easy to reach, with the city centre just 40 minutes away. Manchester is around 45 minutes away. Local attractions include Gulliver's World amusement park, which is 20 minutes away on the edge of Warrington. Historic Chester is about 45 minutes away.

The Lake District, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales and Snowdonia are all between one and two hours' drive away. These areas offer some of the finest upland scenery in England and Wales. To the south, Birmingham is just under two hours away, while across the Pennines it takes an hour and a half to reach Leeds.

St Helens offers plenty of traditional English food as well as cuisine from around the world, such as Italian, Indian and Chinese dishes. As it is historically part of Lancashire, it is worth trying a traditional hot pot, while other delicacies from the region include black puddings rom nearby Bury, and Lancashire cheese.

Sports fans have lots to do in St Helens, with racing at Haydock and also St Helens rugby league team. The town also features several large parks and the fascinating North West Museum of Road transport, with a wealth of vintage lorries, buses, Morris Minors and Minis.
Sightseeing
The most famous sight in the town is the Dream sculpture in Sutton Manor Park on the south side of town, which is visible from the M62. Animal lovers can see lots of exotic wildlife at Knowsley Safari Park, which is a few minutes away to the west.
