Car hire in Sweden

Car hire Sweden

The largest of the Nordic countries, Sweden is renowned for its polite people, high standard of living and liberal nature. It is a nation of contrasts, from the forests, mountains and frozen Arctic tundra of the north to the urban centre and the sandy beaches of the south. This makes it an ideal holiday destination.

What I need to know

If you're looking to hire a car in Sweden, you'll be spoilt for choice. Our site can make life easy by allowing you to input your travel dates and select the type of vehicle you're after. There are no nasty surprises like hidden fees or credit card charges either.

Where to pick up my car

The major airports in Sweden are Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) and Goteborg Landvetter (GOT), but lots of smaller hubs service the smaller cities too. Car hire desks are typically in the arrivals halls and should be clearly signposted. Our site allows you to find suitable cars no matter where you land, so you'll have no problem organising your onward transport.

Where to go

There's so much to see and do in Sweden, particularly if you enjoy outdoor pursuits. You can ski at the resort of Are or hike, fish and watch wildlife like elk and bears near the picturesque town of Jonkoping.

However, there's also plenty of nightlife, shopping and culture on offer, particularly in the beautiful capital, Stockholm.

Nearby

Hiring a car is a great idea in Sweden, as many of the attractions have fairly long distances between them. This is especially the case in the north.

However, do beware of the potential for ice and wild animals on the roads, as collisions are not uncommon. Otherwise, driving in Sweden is extremely safe and akin to anywhere else in Europe.

Longer drives

Exploring Sweden by road offers some stunning scenery and fascinating attractions. You can drive to Kungsleden in the north for its beautiful mountains, or check out the old towns of Stockholm and the palaces and castles in Ekero and Mariefred.

There are also numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Woodland Cemetery and the Struve Meridian Arch.

Stockholm

Stockholm is renowned for its graceful beauty and its outstanding restaurants - don't miss the meatballs, hash or pickled herring, washed down with coffee, vodka or excellent craft beer. There's lively nightlife to be had here too.

Gothenburg

Friendly Gothenburg is Sweden's second largest city and its former industrial heritage is clearly visible. This is the ideal destination for culture vultures. Don't miss the Crown Keep hilltop fort, the Maritiman or the picturesque wooden houses in Haga.

Jonkoping

Pretty Jonkoping is surrounded by lakes and is the perfect relaxation destination. The beach of Lake Vattern is the pride of the town and shouldn't be missed in the summer months, while the many churches are perfect to stroll around on a warm day.
