The perfect opportunity to take in some art, music and history, Verona has a lot more to offer than simply being the fictional setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

You can also head further afield to see some other wonderful locations in this region of Italy. Shop at some of the best designer stores in the country or ride a gondola through the waterways of Venice. Quite likely to be the first place you'll drive to once you land at Verona Airport is Verona itself. A city for star-crossed lovers, it won't take long to see why Verona draws so many people to it. It has a rich history, which is evident through its wonderful attractions, including the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore and the Roman Amphitheater. Another location mentioned in Shakespeare's play about tragic young love is Mantua, which is just 36km from the airport via the A22 and E45. In reality, Mantua - also known as Mantova - was made into a centre for art and learning by the Gonzaga family, whose palace is still the main draw of the area. This is definitely the place to go if you want to explore some great galleries and architecture.
