Longer drives

Just over two hours away by hire car is Heraklion, the capital of Crete, with all its attractions. These include the remains of the fortification walls and last standing bastion of the old town. A little closer to Chania and another must-see is Knossos, generally considered the oldest city in Europe and the fabled home of the Minotaur.
