Car hire at Newquay Airport
Hiring a car at Newquay Airport
Newquay Airport (NQY) is in the English of county of Cornwall, located in the south-west of the country. It is just 15 minutes away from the centre of Newquay town, which is a popular resort area, via the B3276. The airport is also just half an hour away from Cornwall's only city, Truro. You can reach Truro via the A30 and the A39.
Cornwall is located next to Devon, so you can visit the city of Plymouth in as little as an hour by taking the A30 before turning onto the A38. Just be aware the Tamar Bridge has tolls if making this journey.
What you need to know
There are two choices when it comes to hiring a car at Newquay Airport, allowing you to start exploring the beautiful area as soon as you land. Car hire companies Europcar and Hertz operate at the airport so you'll be able to find the right vehicle for you at the right price.
Make your decision easier by using Holiday Autos' website, which will lay out all your options for the dates of your trip. Not only will this give you all the available choices with no hidden costs, you'll also benefit from around the clock support and free cancellation in case your plans change.
Where to pick up your car
You'll find the car hire desks in the arrivals hall of the airport. This means that once you have collected your luggage, you can locate the desk for the company you have hired with and then get on with your trip. It is a good idea to book in advance, as this will ensure you have the car you need and that you get the best price. Failing to book before you travel can result in you having to pay more than if you arrange car hire in advance.
If you have alternative transport from the airport, you can also pick up your hire car from other locations in Newquay, depending on the company you've booked with.

Where to go
Newquay is one of the most popular holiday destinations in England, drawing thousands of people from the UK and rest of the world. Not only does it feature some of the fantastic landscapes that Cornwall has become known for, it has several great beaches that draw surfers throughout the whole year.
The town is also close to a number of other lovely locations in Cornwall, which means car hire will allow you to explore the beautiful county and all that it has to offer. Whether you want shopping, swimming or hiking, there is a something for everyone in and around Newquay.
Nearby Newquay Airport
If you're visiting Newquay, you have to head to at least one of its nine beaches. While each of the beaches has its own charm, the town is perhaps best known for Fistral Beach, which draws surfers from all over. Fistral beach is just 20 minutes away from the airport via the B3276 and offers consistent surf throughout most of the year. Not only does Fistral offer golden sand and surf equipment hire, it also has a beautiful landscape behind it, as well as a number of great restaurants that are all family-friendly.
Another big draw in Newquay is Newquay Zoo, which is around 15 minutes away from the airport, also via the B3276. The zoo lets you get up close and personal to hundreds of animal species, features 13 acres of tropical gardens and has great children's play areas that ensure the whole family will enjoy their day out.
On the opposite coast to Newquay lies the popular town of Falmouth, which is definitely worth a visit. Follow the A39 for 50 minutes to take you to the beautiful town, which features great beaches that are perfect for swimming rather than surfing. You'll find a mixture of small boutiques and well-known shops interspersed with cafes and pubs that allow you to take in the sea views while enjoying a drink.
You can also head to the most south-western point in the UK by driving just over an hour via the A30 to Land's End in Sennen. No matter what the weather, Land's End offers scenery that is straight out of a fantasy novel. Go to the visitors’ centre to learn all about the area and its legendary link to King Arthur and to enjoy some of the special events that take place. You can also enjoy great food at the restaurant while continuing to appreciate the views.
The Eden Project
One of the most well-known attractions in Cornwall, the Eden Project, is an exciting and fun day out for the whole family. Located just outside of St Austell, you can be at the Eden Project in as little as 30 minutes by taking the B3274.
The Eden Project offers you a unique way to learn about nature, view art and get involved with fun activities. From its iconic biomes that feature different environments - including tropical and Mediterranean - to its beautiful outdoor gardens that are interspersed with sculptures created from recycled products, there is so much to see and do no matter the weather.
The hugely iconic open-air Minack Theatre is located in Porthcurno near Penzance. The theatre is perched on a clifftop overlooking the ocean and has seen some of the best theatre performances. Watching a play at the Minack Theatre is a totally different experience to watching one at an indoor theatre, with the sound of the waves and coastal views adding a unique element.
There is nowhere else in the UK quite like Minack, which makes it worth a visit whether you're watching a show or not - especially if you enjoy taking photos. The centre near the theatre will also teach you all about its interesting history and design.
Cornwall is a land of myths and legends, and nowhere is this more apparent that at Tintagel Castle. Around 45 minutes away from Newquay Airport via the A39, you'll find the ruins of the castle that is tied closely with the legend of King Arthur. Located on a cliff, Tintagel Castle offers amazing views and coastal walks as well as lots of history to learn about.
Visiting the castle will also allow you to see a lot of wildlife, from seabirds and seals. Don't forget to take your swimming gear too, as you can walk to the beach below the castle. Explore rock pools and Merlin's Cave when the tide is out.
