The South Downs National Park is half an hour away to the south-west. The Wakehurst Estate with its botanical gardens is 20 minutes south of the airport.

While traditional English food can be enjoyed as well as Italian, Indian or Chinese cuisine, look out for London specialities such as pie and mash or jellied eels. Many English beers will be made with hops grown in nearby counties such as Kent.
Things to do
With the south of London within easy reach, great places to visit include the All England Club at Wimbledon, 45 minutes away. While the annual tennis championships draw in big crowds each summer, the museum is open all year round. A similar journey time will access King Henry VIII's former residence of Hampton Court.
While the nearby countryside offers some great vistas, those who really want to see the sights should head into London, where places like Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and Trafalgar Square are likely to feature on any tourist itinerary. To the south, check out Brighton Pavilion and the city's impressive Regency architecture.
