Car hire at Nantes Airport
Car Hire at Nantes Airport
Nantes Airport (NTE) is the busiest airport in western France, handling more than 4.5 million passengers every year. It sits 8 km southwest of the city of Nantes, just off the D85 and D823 main access roads. Due to its proximity to nearby Bouguenais, Nantes Airport is still referred to using its former name - Aéroport Château Bougon - by some locals.

“The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”
Where to go
Nantes Airport car rental means you’ll quickly be able to head into the city centre and explore its many delights. There are loads of fantastic museums, lush gardens, grand churches and amazing shopping avenues, as well as the magnificent Loire river running through it.
If you’re keen to soak up some unspoilt French nature, Nantes Airport is less than 20 km away from Réserve Naturelle de Grand-Lieu, which grows to become the largest lake in France in the winter.
Nearby Nantes Airport
Just 66 km northwest of Nantes Airport is the Brière Regional Natural Park, France’s second largest area of marshland after the Camargue. More than 50 species of birds visit the park throughout the year, making it a great place for tourists to observe local birdlife. Many tourists also explore the park’s canals and islands by boat.
The Château de Ranrouet, which was built in the 13th century and destroyed by fire in 1793, is a lovely spot for a picnic and you may encounter medieval re-enactments or a farmers’ market if you’re visiting in the summer.
Some 71 km south of Nantes Airport is the peaceful commune of La Roche-sur-Yon, while driving northeast from Nantes Airport for 102 km will bring you to Angers. This city is home to the Apocalypse Tapestry, the biggest medieval tapestry ensemble in the world, housed in the massive château of the Plantagenêts.
The coastal city of La Rochelle is just 138 km south of Nantes Airport, but Paris may be a stretch too far for most. The French capital is almost 400 km away, so driving to Paris is reserved for the determined and devoted, demanding at least three and a half hours of driving in each direction, with tolls.
Eating and drinking
Nantes and its surrounding region is France’s largest food producer. Being less than half an hour’s drive from the Atlantic Ocean, it is likely that you’ll taste some of the best seafood in your life here.
Most Nantes restaurants will offer at least some fish dishes with beurre Nantais - a light, creamy, slightly tangy sauce that is characteristic of the region. Nantes is also well-known for its Muscadet dry, crisp white wine.
Things to do
Being placed on the west of France means that you can spend the day at the beach with Plage de la Source and Plage des Sablons just under 50 km from Nantes Airport.
In Nantes city centre itself, we’d recommend a trip to Les Machines de L’ile - a truly unique museum comprising giant robot animals.
Nantes is home to a pair of castles including the Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne and Chateau de Goulaine. Both offer a great historic day out.
Gardens you should consider visiting include the beautiful Jardin des Plantes and Jardin Japonais, while Parc du Grand Blottereau and Parc de la Beaujoire are also worth popping by.
