Car Hire Reviews Zimbabwe

  • “The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”

Where to go

Harare is a fascinating capital city, where old colonial architecture and traditional Africa stand side-by-side. Visit the National Gallery to see Shona carvings, or enjoy the 68-hectare Botanical Gardens. Zimbabwe's second city Bulawayo features the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe and Bulawayo Railway Museum, based at the city's central station.

Driving in Zimbabwe

Traffic levels in Zimbabwe are low, especially in the countryside. While much wildlife can be seen while driving, be aware that it may suddenly run across the road in front of you.

Longer drives

Those crossing into South Africa can reach Johannesburg in around nine hours from Bulawayo and 12 hours from Harare. It takes around half an hour less to reach Pretoria, while the Zambian capital Lusaka is seven hours from Harare and ten hours from Bulawayo.

Safaris

There are numerous places to go on a safari in a game reserve, such as the Eastern Highlands, Chizazira National Park as well as locations near Harare and Bulawayo. The main aim of any safari is to see the big five - the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls are located on the border with Zambia along the Zambezi River. Featuring a 108-metre drop, the falls are by volume of water the largest in the world. This has led to the falls being listed by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, one of five in the country.

Great Zimbabwe ruins

The ruins of Great Zimbabwe are another Unesco World Heritage site and give the country its name. The city was the capital of the Bantu civilisation between the 11th and 15th centuries. Located in the south-east of the country, it is around three hours and 45 minutes east of Bulawayo.
