Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the ultimate place to land if you want to experience your own American dream. Taking you straight to the home of Hollywood, this USA destination has more than you could imagine on offer.

From amazing beaches to celebrity mansions and some of the best food you've ever tasted, hiring a car at LAX can ensure you see it all.

What I need to know

As with everything in America, you've got a lot of choice when it comes to hiring a car at Los Angeles Airport. There are a number of different companies to pick from, with our site making it easier to compare car hire in LA. Find the perfect vehicle for you and enjoy no card fees, free cancellation and around the clock support.

Where to pick up my car

There are no pickup points at the airport so you won't find car hire companies in the arrivals hall. However, most companies provide free shuttle bus services that pick up from outside the terminal, so you can just hop on the right one and you'll be driving your hire car in no time.

Where to go

There are so many different areas of LA that trying to cram it all into one trip can be difficult, although hiring a car makes it easier. You can grab a map of the stars' houses and snap some pictures outside of your favourite celebrity's home, shop in some world-famous stores or enjoy some typically American food. LA really does have it all.

Nearby Los Angeles Airport

You can't really go to LA without heading to the Venice Beach Boardwalk, which is less than a 30-minute drive from the airport. While you can't drive down the boardwalk, it is definitely worth a visit just to see the mix of different creatives who gather there.

Longer drives

If you fancy a pretty coastal drive and an excuse to escape from LA for a day, San Diego could be the perfect destination. Around two and half hours away, the city is home to SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and a number of other great attractions.

Eating and Drinking

LA is very much a city of excess and this translates to its food. Be prepared for big portions and typical American food, from huge burgers to hot dog vendors. However, the mix of cultures in the city also means there is plenty of variety. You'll be able to find great Korean barbecue, Chinese and Mexican food throughout LA. As well as trendy bars and eateries, there are also some old, hidden gems to hunt out.

Things to do

If you love the celebrity culture of Los Angeles, then you definitely need to head to the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. With thousands of stars' names to look at, you can find your favourites while popping into shops along the way.

You may also want to pay a visit to the iconic Griffith Observatory, which is perched on the slopes of Mount Hollywood. It is home to the most advanced star projector in the world and offers stunning views of LA.

Sightseeing

There are a number of strange places in LA, but Watts Towers is one of the best. Constructed over the course of 33 years from found objects, it is a mix of strange shapes and designs. You can view it from outside, but taking a tour allows you to get closer.

Of course, you can't go to LA without making sure you see the Hollywood sign or stopping off at Universal Studios.
