Car hire in Atlanta

Hiring a car in Atlanta

The capital of Georgia, Atlanta embodies everything you could hope for from the south of the USA. A vibrant city that has become a hub for international business in recent years, Atlanta still serves up southern charm in heaps.

Known as the capital of the South, Atlanta offers a huge range of attractions, great restaurants, rich history and palpable atmosphere. It also feels unlike many other busy cities, as the streets are lined with greenery and there are beautiful traditional homes intermingled with larger structures.

You'll also find that there are plenty of other places to visit during your trip, which is why car hire is a great idea as it can allow you to get around much easier.

What you need to know

You shouldn't have any trouble finding the right car for you in Atlanta, as there are eight different vehicle rental companies operating in the city. These are all rated as 'excellent' or 'very good', ensuring a great level of service no matter which company you choose.

To make finding your hire care even easier, use the Holiday Autos booking tool. This will show you all of the vehicles that are available for the dates of your trip, what they come with and the overall price. We also provide around the clock support and free amendments to your booking as standard.

Where to pick up your car

Probably the best location for picking up your hire car is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). You'll find the car hire desks in the arrivals hall of the airport, so you're able to grab your luggage and find the office of the company you've booked with. Avis is the only company that doesn't have pick-up at the airport. However, they do offer a free shuttle bus to their office.

A number of companies allow you to collect your vehicle from other areas of the city, so it is a good idea to see what the most convenient option will likely be for you before you book.

Going to a graveyard on your holiday may not seem like your usual choice, but while you're in Atlanta you should go to Oakland Cemetery. Just 20 minutes from the airport via the I-85, the cemetery is a National Historic Landmark and is incredibly beautiful. Growing in size to 88 acres after the Civil War, it now features parkland, sculptures and a visitor centre.

Another great place to visit not far from the city centre is Stone Mountain Park. Located around 30 minutes away from Atlanta, the park is a stunning memorial for those who fell during the Civil War. Stone Mountain is in the middle of the space, offering an imposing site with a circumference of five miles. On one section of the mountain is a carved image that depicts the three Confederate leaders. You can reach the top of the hill by cable car to take in amazing views.

Longer drives

Around three and half hours away is the chance for you to experience a touch of the old south. The city of Savannah features beautiful mansions and cobbled streets, creating a romantic atmosphere that makes the city seem more like a small town. Located on the Atlantic coast, Savannah has a lot for you to explore and is a great day out. Enjoy some traditional soul food, marvel at the stunning architecture and even hit the beach to soak up some sun.

For a chance to enjoy some of Georgia's beautiful nature, you should take the two-hour drive via the US-19 N to Chattahoochee National Forest. You'll feel as though you've stepped into another world as you walk through the wooded area. Here you'll find stunning waterfalls, lakes and scenic areas that are a great break away from the city. You can even try your hand at canoeing and other sports.
