Where to go

Warrington is a thriving town in its own right, with plenty of great shops, places to eat and cultural attractions. Gulliver's World Theme Park is an ideal destination for families, as is the lavish Elizabethan-style Walton Hall. Risley Moss Local Nature Reserve and Sankey Valley Park are also good options, particularly if you have an eye for nature.

Nearby Warrington

Warrington sits off the M62 roughly equidistant between Manchester and Liverpool, so it's well worth taking your hire car to explore these two great cities. Manchester was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. Liverpool, meanwhile, is bursting with maritime history and globally famous for being the home of The Beatles.

Both cities have great sporting heritages as well, with Manchester United and Liverpool being England's two most successful football clubs, and the National Football Museum is based in Manchester.

Longer drives

If you want to venture a little further afield, the Peak District is very easy to reach from Warrington, or alternatively you could drive up the M6 to explore what the Lake District has to offer. Both national parks are bursting with natural beauty, wildlife and points of interest to explore more closely. No wonder they are enduring sources of pride for Britain.

Eating and drinking

Warrington offers the variety of places to eat and drink you would demand from a major British town, from traditional English pubs to artisan restaurants serving food from around the world.

Things to do

Warrington is great for shoppers, as all the major brands can be found at the Golden Square, while Stockton Heath boasts many independent stores. And Liverpool One, Cheshire Oaks and the Trafford Centre are just up the road too.

While you're out and about, why not learn more about one of the area's most famous sons? Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll was born in Daresbury and is commemorated at a local church and visitor centre that is well worth exploring.

Warrington offers some beautiful parks, waterways and countryside to visitors, including Rixton Claypits, Lymm Dam, Risley Moss, Woolston Eyes and Appleton Dingle.
