Car hire in Tonbridge

The market town of Tonbridge can be found around 40 miles south-east of London in the county of Kent.

Not to be confused with Royal Tunbridge Wells, which sits five miles south, Tonbridge’s nearest international airport is Gatwick Airport, a 34-mile drive west around the M25. Heathrow Airport is only an hour’s drive away too.

Car Hire Reviews Tonbridge

  • “The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”

Where to go

Tonbridge itself is blessed with many captivating historic buildings, such as the 11th century Tonbridge Castle and 18th century Hadlow Castle, as well as the 160-acre Haysden Country Park. The town also serves as a great base to explore the glorious county of Kent and the rest of south-east England.

Nearby Tonbridge

Royal Tunbridge Wells is a brief five-mile drive south of Tonbridge. Here, you’ll find the beautiful Scotney Castle Garden, Dunorlan Park and Bayham Old Abbey. Less than 15 miles north-east of Tonbridge is Maidstone - home to Leeds Castle, Mote Park and Cobtree Manor Park. Crawley lies 28 miles west of Tonbridge too.

Longer drives

Driving north for little more than an hour will bring you into London. With the likes of Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Big Ben and Trafalgar Square, you could easily spend a week in the UK capital and barely scratch the surface of what it has to offer. Heading south from Tonbridge for under 90 minutes can bring you to the seaside resort of Brighton.

Eating and drinking

Every spring sees the Tonbridge Food & Drink Festival, but outside of this annual event, Tonbridge is awash with wholesome traditional pubs and fantastic restaurants, covering virtually any kind of food you could imagine.

Things to do

Looking across the entire county of Kent, Faversham’s Shepherd Neame Brewery Tour is well worth visiting, as are Ightham Mote and the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Other great family days out include Diggerland in Strood, Wingham Wildlife Park and Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest.

Sightseeing

Again, taking in Kent as a whole, the White Cliffs of Dover are absolutely mesmerising and a truly breathtaking spectacle. Other brilliant sights in the county include Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral. Driving to visit any of these sights will make for an excellent use of your hire car.
