Car Hire at Swansea

Car Hire at Swansea

Swansea is the second largest city in Wales after Cardiff, and is located just off the M4 motorway. It is also easily reachable by plane, thanks to Swansea Airport (SWS). The city is home to a sandy coastline, historic castles and fascinating museums, while if you want to explore the rest of beautiful Wales, Swansea car hire is available from several local suppliers.

What I need to know

There are several options for Swansea car rental, but at Holiday Autos, we compare car hire for you, making sure you're getting the best deal. We've previously helped more than five million customers find car hire in 170 countries, so we know a thing or two about good car rental deals, whether you're in Swansea, Swindon or Sweden.

Where to pick up my car

Swansea car hire is available from several locations in the city, including by the Liberty Stadium, while there are also other outlets as you head in the direction of the coast, meaning you can drive straight to the beach once you've got your wheels.

Where to go

With several national parks, miles of rugged coastlines and quaint fishing villages galore, the rest of Wales is crying out to be explored. Use Swansea as your base and take advantage of the city's competitive car rental deals to experience this beautiful country at your own pace.

Nearby Swansea

Cardiff is under an hour's drive away, where you can visit the city's historic castle. On the way, you'll pass Llandaff, which Doctor Who fans will recognise from Matt Smith's first episode. Author Roald Dahl also grew up in the village. Castle ruins and beaches line the journey, with Southerndown (45 minutes from Swansea and another famous Doctor Who location) a particular highlight.

Longer drives

Brecon Beacons National Park and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park are around 90 minutes' drive from Swansea, but in different directions. Snowdonia National Park is just over three hours away, and is home to the 1,085-metre Mount Snowdon, while Caernarfon Castle is close by. Drive for another hour, and you'll find yourself on the Isle of Anglesey.

Eating and drinking

A trip to Wales wouldn't be complete without sampling the country's signature bake, Bara brith, which is a kind of fruity loaf. Order traditional Welsh rarebit - thick toasted bread covered in melted cheese and worcester sauce - from any cafe menu and you won't be disappointed.

Things to do

Must-visit attractions by car from Swansea include the National Botanic Garden of Wales, which is just a half-hour drive from the city. Castell Coch (50 minutes' drive from Swansea) is also well worth a visit, due to its fairytale-esque exterior and captivating history.

Sightseeing

Sightseeing highlights in Swansea itself include the National Waterfront Museum and Oystermouth Castle, while driving further across Wales will bring you to sights including Conwy Castle, Beaumaris Castle and Llandudno's Great Orme, which are all four hours' drive away, although in different directions. A little closer to Swansea, the picturesque Barafundle Bay can be reached in 90 minutes by car.
