Southend's seafront is a classic British institution, with a number of popular attractions. These include Southend Sea Life for those who love aquatic creatures, the great rides of Adventure Island and of course the famous pier, which stretches more than a mile out into the Thames estuary and features its own train.

Nearby Southend

Southend is close to a number of other Essex seaside towns, such as the popular resort of Canvey Island, just over half an hour's drive to the west. Chelmsford is around 40 minutes away, with the former county town boasting an impressive medieval cathedral and hosting county cricket matches in the summer.

Those venturing towards Colchester and the border with Suffolk can enjoy the countryside made famous in Constable's paintings.
