Milton Keynes’ nearest international airport is Luton Airport Parkway (LTN), a 25-mile drive south down the M1. Continuing south for another 25 minutes will bring you into London itself.

Where to go

Bletchley Park is considered Milton Keynes’ premier tourist attraction. It was the central base for British codebreakers during the Second World War and today, its contribution to the war effort is celebrated with a unique museum and visitor centre.

Those in need of some retail therapy should head to The Centre:MK with its wide range of high street names. For a family fun day out, a drive out to Gulliver’s Land is worthwhile.

Nearby Milton Keynes

Luton sits just half an hour’s drive south down the M1. Here, you’ll be able to visit Stockwood Discovery Centre, Wardown Park Museum or the beautiful Wrest Park. Heading south-west from the centre of Milton Keynes will bring you to the historic city of Oxford, which boasts 1,500 listed building, as well as its world-famous university.

Longer drives

Driving on past Luton will eventually bring you to London. The drive from the centre of Milton Keynes should only take about 90 minutes. However, you should be aware of the Congestion Charge and that parking can be expensive. Also, driving in the capital can be hellish with heavy congestion across much of central London.

Eating and drinking

Milton Keynes is blessed with outlets of many mainstream restaurant chains so if you’re anxious about taking a risk on an unknown eaterie, you’re bound to stumble upon a few names you recognise. The city also has a nice mix of pubs and bars to quench your thirst.

Things to do

Milton Keynes Museum claims to be one of the UK’s most family-friendly museums with recreations of a WW2 air raid shelter, public stocks and a high street shop from yesteryear. Those still hungry for nostalgia could drop by the National Museum of Computing.

A trip to Bletchley Park is definitely recommended, while the artificial ski slope at Snozone can deliver an adrenaline rush for fans of extreme sports.

Sightseeing

The 200-acre Emberton Country Park boasts plenty of natural beauty with a large lake broken into four sections, providing opportunities for sailing, fishing, cycling, picnics and barbeques. Woburn Safari Park is the UK’s largest drive-through safari park with more than 1,000 animals. Just be careful that no naughty monkeys damage your rental car.
