Where to go

Eastbourne is home to a lovely beach and sea front, which includes the famous bright white Beachy Head cliff. The edge of the South Downs National Park is only a few miles from the seaside resort, with some truly beautiful scenery, while the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is also within easy reach by hire car.

Nearby Eastbourne

Brighton with its famous pier and Royal Pavilion is around a 50-minute drive from Eastbourne. Spend your spare pennies in the amusement arcades or enjoy a coffee by the marina. Meanwhile, Hastings - the site of the 1066 battle won by William the Conqueror - is just 45 minutes' drive from Eastbourne.

Longer drives

Portsmouth, home of Lord Nelson's HMS Victory and the Mary Rose, is an hour and 45 minutes' drive from Eastbourne, while London is just over two hours away. See the UK capital from above via the London Eye or walk along the south bank of the River Thames, taking in sights including Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament.

Eating and drinking

Eastbourne's sea front is home to several eateries selling traditional Great British seaside fare, including sticks of rock, bags of sickly sweet fudge, whipped ice cream complete with chocolate flake and raspberry sauce and, of course, fish and chips, which are guaranteed to taste better when eaten outdoors by the sea.

Things to do

The Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway Adventure Park offers a fun day out for all the family, thanks to its scale train track and steam engines, five-acre lake and ample picnic spots. The railway lines are surrounded by beautiful English countryside, giving you the chance to see fascinating wildlife in its natural habitat.

Sightseeing

Eastbourne's Beachy Head is the highest chalk sea cliff in Great Britain, with its distinctive white rock visible from miles across the sea. A walk along Beachy Head offers stunning views across the English Channel, while Harry Potter fans will be interested to know this is the site where the Quidditch World Cup was filmed in the Goblet of Fire.
