Where to go

Once you’ve picked up your car hire it’s time to explore Ko Samui and all it has to offer. From the island's traditional Buddhist temples to its popular tropical beaches, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to planning your Thailand trip.

Nearby Ko Samui

Due to the small size of the circular island at 228 square km, you can navigate your way round it within an hour or so. As long as you leave yourself plenty of time to get from A to B, driving on Ko Samui should be relatively straightforward. Head to the south or west of the island and you’ll find family-run seafood restaurants and tourist-free villages.

Longer drives

With a hire car you can take a road trip around the island with flexibility to stop as and where you wish, admiring Ko Samui’s stunning viewpoints. It’s worth driving to Na Muang Waterfalls, where you can hop in the natural pools and cool off after a long day of exploring the island.

Alternatively you can drive to Hin Ta & Hin Yai, a series of natural and impressive rocks, located on the island’s coast.

Eating and drinking

Don’t be fooled by the island’s small size, Ko Samui has much to offer when it comes to eating and drinking. Across the islands you can easily locate Thai food, seafood, Indian cuisine and western dishes depending on what your fancy. If you want to dine with a view, there are plenty of restaurants that overlook the coastline.

Things to do

If you want to see towering mountains, thick jungle, all-natural waterfalls and hidden coves, it’s worth visiting the Ang Thong National Marine Park. Located in Bophut, the Fisherman’s Village Samui has a great atmosphere and a lively street market for those interested in Ko Samui’s history.

Sightseeing

On the northern side of the island you can visit the Big Buddha shrine, a golden Buddha statue 12 metres high and spotted from a distance. Close by you will also be able to locate Wat Plai Laem - a Buddhist temple well worth a trip to. You can also visit Koh Tao, one of Thailand’s best scuba diving destinations.
