Where to go

Most international travellers will fly into Bandaranaike International Airport in the capital city of Colombo, from which you can drive to destinations including Kandy, Ella and Galle. Sri Lanka’s iconic tourist attractions include the sacred Adam’s Peak and ancient Sigiriya rock fortress. It is also easy to fly onto other destinations in Asia from Sri Lanka, with India very close.

Longer drives

One particularly scenic drive in Sri Lanka takes you from Kandy to Mahiyangana. The shorter route involves a number of hairpin bends, and you can gaze on the shimmering paddyfields of the Ampara district as you motor.

Ella

Ella is a favourite destination among travellers who desire a few days of tranquility and relaxation. This hill-country destination is peppered with charming guest houses. Take a gentle ramble up Little Adam’s Peak or Ella Rock, and enjoy the stunning views through Ella Gap.

Galle

Galle is the most famous southern destination in Sri Lanka, and with good reason. The Dutch-colonial architecture is punctuated by exotic sights and scents, all set to the most tropical of backdrops. Galle’s iconic Fort has been granted UNESCO world heritage status.

Sigiriya

History fans will be blown away by incredible Sigiriya. Sigiriya’s dramatic rock formation is topped by the remains of an ancient civilisation. From the top of the rock, you are treated to a breathtaking misty vista of forests, moats filled with lilypads, peaceful shrines and water gardens.
