Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, which sit to the west of Morocco in the North Atlantic Ocean. It's a hugely popular tourist destination, with a great choice of stunning beaches and boasting sunny weather for most of the year.

The main road in Tenerife is the TF-1, which runs from Adeje in the west, down and along the south coast and then up to Santa Cruz. This then becomes the TF-5, which goes along to Puerto de la Cruz.

Where to pick up your car

Where to go

As well as being the biggest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is undoubtedly one of the most popular.

As well as boasting some beautiful coastal locations, Tenerife is home to Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain. Mount Teide National Park has a stunning volcanic lunar landscape and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the most popular areas in Tenerife is Los Cristianos, which is just 15km west of Tenerife South Airport. As well as an array of stunning beaches, Los Cristianos is popular for its beautiful harbour, that offers fishing trips, cruises, outings on glass bottom boats, diving excursions and ferries to the neighbouring island of La Gomera.

Longer drives

Just over an hour north of Los Cristianos is Puerto de la Cruz, the main tourist destination in the north of Tenerife. Despite welcoming large numbers of visitors every year, this area retains its Spanish charm, boasting stunning cobbled streets and architecture - including the Church of Nuestra Señora de La Peña de Francía, which dates back to the 17th century.
