Where to go

Navigating your way around the city once you have sorted out your Derry Airport car hire isn’t difficult because it is essentially split in two. This is because of the natural topography of the River Foyle, with The Waterside and The Cityside separated by the stretch of water. There are three bridges that cross the Foyle, but most of the tourist attractions are found on the Cityside.

Walking the city walls makes for a great activity, as Derry is home to some of the most complete defensive walls in Europe. For a fascinating insight into the history of Northern Ireland, explore Bogside, where you will find many murals commemorating key events from the Troubles. In this area, you will also find the Free Derry monument and Bloody Sunday memorial.

Sightseeing

When it comes to museums, Derry has just about every subject covered. You can spend your holidaylearning about everything from railways and the harbour to genealogy and Amelia Earhart. There’s also the Old Gaol and The People’s Gallery, which tells the story of the people who painted the Bogside murals.
