Where to go

Zante is a relatively small island, so you'll find that you can reach almost any destination in less than an hour. If you're looking to travel across the entire island, then you won't want to miss out on a trip to the north to see the area where grapes and olives are grown.

While you're in the north of the island, make sure that you you take a trip to Smugglers Cove. This area is one of the most famous sights in Zante, and boasts magnificent white cliffs with clear blue waters beneath. It's most well-known for its giant shipwreck, which has sat there since 1980 when it ran aground in the waters surrounding the island following a storm.

Nearby Zante

As the island of Zante is so small, it takes just an hour and a half to drive from one end to the other. A popular way to see the sights that Zante has to offer is to take a boat trip around the island. The best boat excursions last a full day, letting you dive into some of Zante's most beautiful spots, visit the caves and take you to the island's best local tavernas.

The highlight of any boat trip though, is a visit to Turtle Island. With no inhabitants or buildings, the island is home to Caretta Caretta Turtles. See these stunning creatures in their natural habitat, and relax on one of the most beautiful beaches in Zante.

Longer drives

If you want to explore further inland, Zante has some beautiful villages that exude the traditional culture of the Greek island. Keri is just 21km south of the town of Zakynthos, but is much more quaint, having refrained from catering too much to tourism. From the central square you can enjoy stunning views of the Ionian Sea, or you can explore the traditional stone-built houses and narrow streets.

On the north side of the island, the village of Volimes is a haven of traditional Greek culture. This mountainous village still boasts its stone-built houses and churches, as well as the windmills that stand on the hills above. One of the most stunning sights here is the 16th century monastery of Agios Georgios.
