The airport is quite small; there is only one terminal and you’ll arrive into it, so the car hire desks are really easy to spot. Land, get your bags, get your car and get your holiday on the road.
If you don’t come home with a large bottle of Kefaloinian olive oil, you’ll regret it. It’s so good here that there is no need to distinguish between virgin and extra virgin; all of it is simply delicious.
There are bars and restaurants available in the airport, but facilities can become crowded during peak season. To avoid the queues, stop off at one the suburbs en route to the airport to pick up some supplies. There are some great cafes and snack bars in Minia and Lakithra.
Because the weather is so hot, most stores and businesses close between 14.30-17.00, so make sure your Kefalonian hire car has air conditioning when you book, and for a few hours every day, while the rest of the island dozes, you can have the roads to yourself.
