Once you have your car, you can head to other areas of France or straight into the city of Bordeaux. If you're doing the latter, you'll find that Bordeaux is no longer considered the 'Sleeping Beauty' of the country and is now a vibrant location. Lovers of wine should be sure to head to one of the region's vineyards, with Chateau D'agassac being just half an hour away via the D210 and A630. Here you can explore one of the oldest wine making places in the region, including the chateau, which has stood since the 13th century.

Bordeaux Airport puts you in a good location to visit other cities in this area of France and Bergerac should be on your list. Around an hour and a half away via the A89 toll road, Bergerac is known for its cream stone buildings, beautiful vineyards and the dramatist Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac. It also has a great cafe scene that you definitely need to make the most of.

Bordeaux is literally bursting with great cafes and bars so you'll never be short of places to eat and drinking while visiting the city. As it's close to the coast, there is an abundance of delicious seafood for you to enjoy, as well as the typical French classics. On top of this, bakeries and fromageries across the city will mean even cheese and bread is the best you'll have tasted.

You can see a show at the stunning Grand Theatre, enjoy a picnic at the incredible Monument aux Girondins or shop in anyone of the great shopping districts. There are so many different attractions throughout Bordeaux, so you may struggle to fit them all in. If you want to take a relaxed stroll, there is nowhere quite like the Pont de Pierre to do so, which offers views out over the water.

You should also be sure to head to the Water Mirror, which is located opposite the Place de la Bourse. It creates a stunning mirror effect, especially on a clear night, which really can't be missed.
