Car hire at Larnaca Airport

Larnaca Airport (LCA) is the biggest airport in Cyprus and the gateway to the island, serving many international flights. It lies 7km from the city of Larnaca itself and should take around ten minutes to drive to along the B4 road. Once you arrive, you’ll be met by a lively port city, complete with beaches and buzzing bars and restaurants.

What I need to know

With just a few companies to choose from, it’s worth securing your Larnaca Airport car rental deal as soon as possible. To ensure you get the right car at the right price, compare car hire options with the Holiday Autos site.

Where to pick up my car

Picking your hire car up at Larnaca Airport couldn’t be simpler, as the firms have desks within the terminal building. They are located inside the arrivals hall, so you’ll naturally find them after disembarking your flight and once you've collected your luggage.

Where to go

With your hire car, the whole of southern Cyprus will be opened up to you. Start off by checking out the areas of Larnaca, including its beautiful beaches, historic sites and squares. There is so much crammed into the city, you can enjoy a cultural attraction in the morning and a relaxing sunbathe and swim in the afternoon.

Nearby Larnaca Airport

Just over 5km from the airport is Mackenzie Beach, meaning you could be feeling the sand between your toes within minutes of picking up your hire car. It’s safe for swimming and features a long promenade and some delicious seafood restaurants. For a wider selection of beaches, drive a little further to Ayia Napa, where there are 14 Blue Flag-accredited stretches of sand to enjoy.

Longer drives

Nicosia is the country’s capital and therefore well worth a visit. You’ll find ancient walls and sites, traditional restaurants and an enticing café culture. Alternatively, take the drive to Limassol, complete with its castle, 19th-century buildings and some wonderful boutiques for doing a spot of shopping. Finish the day with a wander along the promenade as the sun sets. Another option is Paphos, which has been inhabited since Neolithic times.

Eating and drinking

The food in Larnaca is mainly Greek in influence, so you’ll be able to enjoy wonderful Mediterranean fare that is both delicious and surprisingly good for you. As well as the Greek salads, be sure to take advantage of Cyprus’ island status and enjoy some fish. And if you decide you’d like a change, there’s a number of restaurants offering up cuisine from other parts of the world.

Things to do

Throwing everything into the back of your hire car and spending the day at the beach is one of the obvious benefits of holidaying in Larnaca. Don’t neglect its other charms, however, especially Larnaca Salt Lake, which is made up of a series of small lakes and can be found to the west of the city.

Sightseeing

If you enjoy history, then you’ll want to visit some of the fascinating sites Larnaca and the wider area have to offer. Take in the Kition, a former city-state that dates back to the 13th century, and Larnaca Fort, which was constructed between 1382 and 1398. Both will give you an interesting insight into Cyprus and the civilisations that have shaped it.
