Car Hire Reviews Split Airport

  • “The pick-up was easy, it took 5 minutes from arriving at the desk to driving out the car, and the return took even less time.”

Where to go

Nestled between the mountains and the sea, Split is a vibrant port city and the cultural centre of the Dalmation coast. You'll be able to explore the remains of the Roman Diocletian's Palace, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the panoramic views from St Duje's cathedral.

Heading further afield in your hire car, you'll also have access to the scenic coastline and other Croatian cities.

Nearby Split airport

It's well worth driving to Kastela during your trip. This small group of towns will take just 15 minutes to reach by car and offers a number of sights, including a floating Roman dock. The harbour town of Trogir is reachable in ten minutes and has a relaxed, sleepy atmosphere plus some beautiful beaches.

Longer drives

Split car hire allows you to visit some fantastic locations further afield too. Makarska is a resort town that boasts stunning beaches and is 60km from Split, while Travnik, Mostar and even Zenica offer other ideas for day trips. You could even take the ferry to surrounding island destinations.

Eating and drinking

The Dalmation region offers some superb food and wine, many examples of which have Italian influences. Don't miss the local delicacy soparnik, a savoury baked dough, or the many seafood risottos on offer. Pipi and Orela are popular non-alcoholic beverages.

Things to do

You should definitely visit the Poljud stadium during your trip, as the football club Hajduk Split is a local institution and source of immense pride. If you're feeling energetic, hike or bike up the Marjan hill for beautiful panoramic views of Split.

Sightseeing

You can see two original Egyptian sphinxes in Split; one is in Peristil Square and the other is near Jupiter's temple and both are excellent for photo opportunities. Another tourist attraction is the Getski vrtal park in the Diocletian's palace, where you can see the ruins of a 500-year-old house destroyed in the Second World War.
