Olbia is the start of Costa Smeralda - the Emerald Coast - which goes right down to the tip of Capo de Testa. You can reach the site in around 30 minutes via SP73 and Strada Statale 125 Orientale Sarda.
On the other side of the island of Sardinia is the Spanish-inspired town of Alghero, which takes under two hours to reach via the SS597. Alghero is a lively seaside town that almost feels like you're arriving in a different country. The language is similar to Spanish and many of the road signs are in this language too. Alghero has interesting historical sites and great food, which will give you plenty to do and enjoy during a day trip.
Just over an hour away from Olbia via Strada Statale 131 is the town of Nuoro. Set on the side of a mountain ridge, Nuoro offers some of the best views in Sardinia. It is also home to the cathedral of Santa Maria, a 19th-century church that sits on a cliff, which features a sheer drop into the valley. This is one of the most beautiful mountainous regions in Sardinia and offers a nice break from the coast.
