From Croydon you can visit the historic town of Guildford, which lies around 37 miles to the east. Alternatively, head south to Royal Tunbridge Wells, a popular tourist destination which is home to the Pantiles, which features a range of specialist shops, restaurants and cafes.
Longer drives
Brighton, on the south coast of England, is around 45 miles from Croydon and well worth a visit thanks to its combination of coastline and trendy shops and bars. To the south-east is Dover, home of the famous white cliffs, or on the south-west tip of England is Cornwall, famed for its picturesque coastal villages.

Croydon is home to a wide range of restaurants and bars - both independents and chains. You can sample food from almost anywhere in the world, but if you want to go down the traditional route, opt for pie and mash.
Things to do
Take a stroll around some of the local parks, such as Wandle Park or South Norwood Country Park, or head to the Battle of Britain Monument, a 25 metre-long bronze monument commemorating pilots who died during the second world war.
Sightseeing
Shirley Windmill is a must-see, while Croydon Museum is an excellent way to learn more about the local area. Of course, if you head into central London you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to attractions to see. Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and the London Dungeon are just some of what's on offer.
