Vienna is a beautiful and historic city with magnificent Gothic architecture, numerous statues, concert halls and major landmarks. Highlights include St Stephen's cathedral, the Hofburg Palace, the Vienna State opera House and the Prater, a huge park on the banks of the Danube with an iconic ferris wheel.

The Slovakian border is just to the east and Bratislava is just 40 minutes away. West of Vienna, Linz is just over two hours away, while it takes the same amount of time to drive southwards to Graz. Budapest is also just over two hours away.

Viennese cuisine is best known for its pastry-based confectioneries, and it is certainly possible to enjoy some wonderful strudels, cakes and pancakes, traditionally with coffee in the afternoon. But there are also many beef dishes, such as tafelspitz (boiled beef stew) and wiener schnitzel, while many savoury dishes contain dumplings.

Vienna is a wonderful place to hear classical music, with the city of Beethoven, Brahms and Strauss featuring magnificent venues like the Vienna State Opera, Wiener Konzerthaus or Kursalon Wien.
